Faith: Enjoying today while waiting for the bend in the river.

Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike!  You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant;...

Does God owe you an explanation?

Posted by on Feb 6th, 2013 in Personal Inspiration | 0 comments

Who of us can tell God that He owes us something?  How many of us can tell Him to contact us if He needs help? Intellectually, the answer to these questions are obvious.  God does not owe me anything.  He does not need my advice.  These truths are self-evident until life happens and I start to question why the bad things in life have happened to me.  If I am not careful, my emotional response to a fallen world will cause me to tell God that He owes me an explanation. How often are my prayers filled with my giving God advice on how to fix...

Take the opportunity to change

Over the years as an executive director, I have found change is inevitable, costly and difficult. You absolutely can not get around it. Change is waiting to sneak up and pin you. When you expect it most, it happens. When you are not paying attention, it happens. It just happens. If the change is enevitable and costly, it seems to me I should make change work for the organization and not against it. How do I make sure the change that is coming our way helps the culture in the organization? Here are a few tips. 1. Impress on your...

What you cannot lack as a Nonprofit

Enduring through the highs and lows to become a place of trust takes time. Heroism is not needed as much as faithfulness. This is not impulsive but it is intentional. Every good cause not only needs a spokesperson and champion. It needs a person that just does and the next day does it again. Part of running a great nonprofit is knowing that there are a few things that have to be done day in and day out. You have to provide great service. You have to take care of your staff, volunteers and donors. And you have to share your story to at...

Don’t hangup on the conversation

Don’t hangup on the conversation

In this global online village there is a struggle for authenticity going on.  Brands are trying sell, people are trying to converse and millions of posts, tweets and updates are flying around each day.  In this maelstrom of words, pictures and sounds that fuel conversation, we are trying to communicate and build trust.  The new commodity is genuineness.  Are you real?  Are you really interested in having a conversation with me?  Do you have an hidden agenda? What are you trying to sell?  Will it help me? Many people talk about the good...

Three Tips to Building the Non-Profit Jigsaw Puzzle

Posted by on Jun 16th, 2012 in Leadership, Personal Inspiration | 0 comments

People love a good jigsaw puzzle; the challenge of looking at the top of the box and trying to find the edges and then work to the middle.  My sister  sometimes make it more challenging hiding the top of the box with the final image.  This way she has to remember how they go together and try to put the puzzles together using just the edges as a guide. Define a clear vision Don’t make it harder than it has to be.  Be specific and clear about where you are going and how you plan to get there.  Work with your key constituents (staff,...
